Recovery phrase
Your recovery phrase is your wallet.
The 12 or 24 words shown when you create a DueWallet are the only way to restore your funds. Here is how to back them up properly and keep them safe.
Never share your recovery phrase
DueWallet support will never ask for your recovery phrase or private key. Anyone who has your phrase can take all of your funds. Treat requests for it as a scam, always.
Back up your phrase correctly
- 1
Write it on paper
Copy all words in order with a pen. Double-check spelling.
- 2
Verify the backup
DueWallet asks you to confirm several words to prove the backup is correct.
- 3
Store it offline
Keep it in a secure, fireproof location. Consider a metal backup plate.
- 4
Make a second copy
Store a duplicate in a separate secure location in case of loss or damage.
Do and do not
- Do store your phrase offline, on paper or metal.
- Do keep copies in at least two secure locations.
- Do not screenshot or photograph your phrase.
- Do not store it in email, notes apps or cloud drives.
- Do not type it into any website or form.
- Do not share it with anyone, including DueWallet support.
Recovery phrase FAQ
What if I lose my phone?
Install DueWallet on a new device, choose "Import wallet" and enter your recovery phrase. All accounts and balances will be restored.
What if I lose my recovery phrase?
If you still have access to the wallet, create a new wallet immediately, back up its phrase, and transfer your funds. If you have lost both the device and the phrase, funds cannot be recovered by anyone.
Can I use an encrypted cloud backup?
DueWallet offers optional encrypted cloud backup protected by a password only you know. The file is encrypted on-device before upload, but we still recommend keeping an offline paper backup.
