Understanding gas and network fees.

Every blockchain transaction requires a fee paid to the network. Here is why, and how to keep costs low.

Why fees exist

Blockchains are run by validators or miners who process transactions and secure the network. Fees compensate them and prevent spam. On Ethereum and EVM chains these fees are called "gas".

Fees go to the network, not to DueWallet. They depend on how busy the network is and how complex your transaction is — a simple transfer costs less than a multi-step DeFi interaction.

Typical network fees

NetworkSimple transferToken swap
Bitcoin$0.50 – $5N/A
Ethereum$0.30 – $5$1 – $20
Arbitrum / Base / Optimism< $0.05$0.05 – $0.30
Solana< $0.01< $0.05
BNB Chain~$0.03~$0.15
Polygon< $0.01< $0.05

Estimates only. Fees fluctuate with network demand.

How to pay less

  • Use Layer 2 networks like Base or Arbitrum for everyday activity.
  • Choose the "Slow" fee option when timing is not critical.
  • Transact during off-peak hours (weekends, early UTC mornings).
  • Batch actions and avoid unnecessary approvals.
