What is a crypto wallet?
A crypto wallet does not actually store coins. It stores the keys that prove you own them on the blockchain.
Keys, not coins
Cryptocurrencies live on public blockchains — shared ledgers maintained by thousands of computers. Your "balance" is simply a record on that ledger associated with an address.
A wallet manages a pair of cryptographic keys. The public key (and the address derived from it) is like your account number: safe to share so people can send you funds. The private key is like the signature that authorises spending. Whoever holds it controls the funds.
DueWallet generates your private keys from a recovery phrase, stores them encrypted on your device, and uses them to sign transactions when you approve them.
Types of wallets
